30 Spanish students make a scientific visit to Loro Parque

Students from various Spanish cities learned firsthand the research projects of Loro Parque Foundation.

Loro Park has been visited by more than 30 students from all over Spain, under the Campus Summer Science Program 2011, which held the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT, in collaboration with the distinguished spanish universities as a Campus of International Excellence, in this case the La Laguna University (ULL) and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University (ULPGC). They were welcomed by Dr. Javier Almunia, deputy director of Loro Parque Foundation, who led them during the visit and explained in detail the various research and conservation actions developed by the foundation for the protection of different species of animals, and specially explained the bioacoustics research program with marine mammals which are developed in collaboration with a research team of the ULL. Before the end of the day, they had the opportunity to visit Loro Parque´s clinic and laboratory, as well as the first baby killer-whale born in Spain under human care.
