Legacies and Inheritances

Legacies for the benefit of endangered species

Loro Parque Foundation

Loro Parque Fundación is a foundation, with the goal to preserve endangered animal species with, for example, parrots, dolphins, whales and other mammals acting as ambassadors of their kind. With their protection the habitats of many other species are also protected at the same time and thus contribute to conserve biodiversity.

Since the 1700's it has been demonstrated that at least 28 parrot species and subspecies have become extinct or been exterminated. So that it never happens again, Loro Parque Fundación is working very intensively worldwide in close cooperation with many conservation organizations to develop effective conservation programmes for the most threatened species.

Since its founding in 1994, Loro Parque Fundación has invested almost US$ 16.000.000 in 109 projects worldwide for the protection of endangered species. In more than two thirds of the projects their populations have increased again, and the threat category in the "Red List" of the IUCN could be downgraded for no less than nine parrot species. The best examples of this are the projects initiated for protection and population growth in the Yellow-eared Parrot (Ognorhynchus icterotis) and the Lear’s Macaw (Anodorhynchus leari). These were therefore downgraded from the category “Critically Endangered" to "Endangered”. These among others are the best evidence of the effective work of Loro Parque Fundación.

The commitment of Loro Parque Fundación to international nature conservation and species protection is carried out in close cooperation with the renowned professionals of its Scientific Advisory Board.

Legacies in favour of Loro Parque Fundación

The funding of Loro Parque Fundación comes largely from the support of Loro Parque, S.A. which every year covers the total running costs (such as salaries, food for the animals, maintenance, etc.) of the Foundation. Thus, 100% of all membership fees, donations, bequests and contributions from inheritances and sponsorship goes directly to the conservation projects for endangered species.

To benefit animals

Some animal lovers wish to help animals by making a bequest in favour of LPF. They might also want to give something back for the many beautiful and happy hours that they have experienced in Loro Parque, or with their own animals, or even in their enjoyment of nature. Whatever the motivation, any person with the desire to contribute can always contribute significantly with a bequest, so that Loro Parque Fundación can successfully continue its valuable and important work for the benefit of endangered animals.

The procedure for making legacies or appointing inheritance

Those who wish to leave assets to Loro Parque Fundación (appoint LPF as inheritor), may consult and clarify the way to do it in a personal conversation with the Director of Loro Parque Fundación, who will put you in touch with the lawyers of LPF. They will gladly advise and guide you with the legal issues this raises.

Where can I leave my parrots?

For all those who own parrots, and who are concerned about their fate, Loro Parque Fundación may be able to provide a very special service for these animals of care and maintenance in the best conditions, as long as they live. Following study and acceptance by the management of Loro Parque Fundación, it will accept the parrots that were owned by the person who has also made a bequest to the Foundation which includes assets to ensure their wellbeing in our facilities. As a result, many people who put the question "What will happen to my beloved birds after my death?" obtain a reassuring and highly rewarding response.

The Will

A will is a voluntary statement of a person expressing what he wants to be done with his property after his death; it is a solemn act subject to certain requirements of form and in which there is necessarily the institution of an heir.
In addition of the constitution of an heir, a will can include a bequest that is merely the designation of one or more assets or certain rights, which will be transmitted to whoever the testator names, and not be subject of distribution among heirs.
Regarding these legal formalities, in Spain the common will may be holographic, open or closed. Also, depending on the personal circumstances, there are a number of issues to consider when addressing the legal concept of the will. Therefore, the advice of a notary is essential when considering the granting of the will. However, if you wish, the management of Loro Parque Fundación, whenever you foresee to name this entity inheritor or make a legacy in its favour, can put you in touch with its lawyers who will legally guide you in granting your will.
