The Grand Gala held at Poema del Mar brings together more than 400 people and establishes itself as one of the most important events of the year in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

On Thursday 5 June, Poema del Mar hosted the charity dinner organised by Loro Parque Fundación to mark Oceans Day. The event brought together more than 400 people and has established itself as one of the most important events on the institutional, social and scientific calendar in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The evening was marked by an extraordinary atmosphere of support for marine conservation and the work carried out by the Loro Parque Foundation for more than two decades. In addition, the event once again demonstrated the affection of the Canarian public for the Kiessling family, who were present at the event and whose commitment to biodiversity was recognised and applauded by those in attendance.

Among the authorities present were the President of the Canary Islands Parliament, Astrid Pérez, and the Deputy Minister for Ecological Transition of the Canary Islands Government, Julieta Schallenberg, who expressed their institutional support for the conservation projects promoted by the Foundation.

During the event, Wolfgang Kiessling, President of the Loro Parque Group, emphasized the importance of facilities like Poema del Mar in raising awareness and protecting marine biodiversity, highlighting that these types of spaces play a fundamental role in education, research and ocean protection. He also proudly recalled that thanks to the work of the Loro Parque Foundation, 12 seriously endangered parrot species have already been saved from extinction, making the Foundation one of the most effective conservation organisations in the world.

For his part, Christoph Kiessling, the president of Loro Parque Fundación, highlighted some of the most innovative scientific projects being developed in the Canary Islands, such as the restoration of coral reefs using 3D technology, the HippoDEC study on seahorses and pipefish, and the CanBio programme, developed in collaboration with the Canary Islands Government as the largest research project on the impact of climate change on the archipelago.

Thanks to the funds raised at this gala, the seahorse conservation project will continue with the development of ‘Seahorse Hotels’ —3D-printed structures that simulate natural habitats— with the aim of promoting reproduction and protecting this emblematic species on the archipelago’s coastline.

The event was made possible thanks to the generous collaboration of numerous Canarian companies, many of them based on the island of Gran Canaria, including Vintia, Audiovisuales Canarias, Activa Canarias, Comesa, Emicela, Danafresh, Egatesa, Orthidal, Europastry, Jaime Llorca, Ahembo, CCC, Firgas and Perelada. All of them contributed generously to make the event a resounding success in terms of organisation and participation.
